“Franklin” comes from “John Adams” writer-producer Kirk Ellis, with Howard Korder (“Boardwalk Empire”), director Tim Van Patten (“The Sopranos”) and former HBO programming chief Richard Plepler joining him among the executive producers with pedigreed connections to that network. Michael Douglas and Ludivine Sagnier in "Franklin." Yet unlike “John Adams,” it lacks the level of supporting players and driving tension related to the Adams-Thomas Jefferson dynamic to provide a strong sense of narrative momentum. But even those attributes, and Douglas’ interpretation of them, don’t quite prove inventive enough to compensate for its shortcomings. “Franklin” premieres April 12 on Apple TV+.

Michael Douglas discovered on a recent episode of the PBS series that he is the “DNA cousin” of actress Scarlett Johansson. “Are you kidding?” Douglas replied when host Henry Louis Gates Jr. revealed the connection. CNN —The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) is leveraging the attention on Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-nominated film “Oppenheimer” in an attempt to elevate the conversation about nuclear threat. In the run-up to Sunday night’s Academy Awards, the organization is launching a “Make Nukes History” campaign Wednesday in Los Angeles. “We want to raise our voices to remind people that while Oppenheimer is history, nuclear weapons are not,” the group writes in their letter. And political will is created when people demand it.”Cillian Murphy (as J. Robert Oppenheimer) and writer, director, and producer Christopher Nolan on the set of "Oppenheimer." The two leaders last spoke a year ago, and since then, already fraught ties between the nations have been further strained. The pair opened their face-to-face meeting in the San Francisco Bay area with a solid handshake. The two leaders made the comments Wednesday after shaking hands in their first face-to-face meeting in more than a year.

The White House Historical Association hopes to provide answers to some of those questions when it opens The People’s House: A White House Experience, in the fall of 2024. The center will feature a large cutaway model of the White House with rooms that, with the help of technology, can morph into the Green Room, the Blue Room or the Red Room. People will also learn about the slave labor that went into building the White House. About 500,000 people visit the White House yearly, McLaurin said. ☆ Hundreds of Entertainers Sign Letter in Support of Israel

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Over 700 people from the entertainment industry, including actors Gal Gadot, Michael Douglas and Jerry Seinfeld, signed an open letter in support of Israel in its conflict with Hamas, the Creative Community for Peace said on Thursday. CCFP, a non-profit entertainment industry organization, said the letter was the first of its kind and "a call from the entertainment industry unequivocally voicing support for Israel and condemning Hamas' terrorism." Gadot, the Israeli actor who shot to fame playing Wonder Woman, said she hoped the world remains steadfast in its support of the Israeli people. I’m praying for everyone who has been affected by Hamas’ terrorism and brutality," she said in the press release for the open letter. The letter also urges people to remember "the horrific images that came out of Israel."

New York’s civic leaders and arts administrators have spoken for two decades of the importance of building a haven of artistic creation on a site that had become synonymous with tragedy and death. “Here, on this very site, where so much loss and devastation took place,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor who is chairman of the institution’s board, “the arts will bring a special sense of hope for the future.”Various ideas for the space percolated and fizzled for years, until Ronald O. Perelman, the billionaire businessman whom the building is named after, jump-started the project with a $75 million donation. It was Mr. Bloomberg who brought the project to fruition, contributing the largest portion of money: $130 million. Although it is Mr. Perelman’s name on the building, Mr. Bloomberg was at the center of much attention Thursday night, posing with benefactors and celebrities like Michael Douglas and Liev Schreiber on a red carpet at a cocktail hour before the performance, where guests sipped champagne and ate miniature cheeseburgers and pigs in blankets.

It was regularly cited as an inspiration for Obama staffers attracted to the show’s insider-y look at the West Wing and its characters’ fundamental decency. That emphasis on process is what makes the politics of “Red, White & Royal Blue” seem smaller than the fantasy of the electoral map hinging on Texas would lead viewers to believe. But process without vision is stultifying, and reflects more than the limits of onscreen political fantasy.
